Summer Craftivity: Lava Lamp

Materials

  • Empty 500ml bottle (plastic)
  • vegetable oil
  • water
  • food colouring
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets

Instructions

Step 1: For this craft we need to make sure your plastic water bottle is empty. Once the water bottle is empty, add your vegetable oil into the water bottle. You will want to fill the water bottle ⅔ full with vegetable oil.

Step 2: Next, fill the rest of the water bottle with water.

Step 3: Once the bottle is full of water and vegetable oil you can now add food colouring!

Choose the colour of your choice! Once you have the colour you want only add about 10-12 drops of food colouring. Once you have added the food colouring GENTLY stir it all together.

The water and oil won’t mix but the food colouring and the water should mix together. Make sure to stir and not shake it at this stage since we don’t want to form bubbles.

Step 4: Once the mixture is mixed it is time for the magic!
Break the Alka-Seltzer tablet in four pieces. Add each part of the tablet separately.

The Final Product

Once the craft is complete put your lid on the water bottle and save the lava lamp for the next use! The lava lamp will work time and time again!
