Weekly Service to Sun Peaks Highlights Updates to Mobile Library Schedule

Kamloops, BC – January 5, 2024 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) is excited to unveil new Mobile Library stops and expanded stop times for 2024.

Beginning this month, the Mobile Library Schedule will include several new stops:

  • Valleyview Square: every Wednesday, 1:00 to 2:00 pm
  • Big Sky Gas Bar (relocating from Thompson River Estates): every third Friday from 1:15 to 2:15 pm
  • Tobiano (Holloway Dr at Colebrook Rd): every third Friday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm

Sun Peaks and Whitecroft residents can now enjoy more frequent stops. Beginning on January 7, 2024, the Mobile Library will be at Sun Peaks School (near P5) every Sunday from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, and in Whitecroft Village from 2:30 to 3:15 pm. Previously, the Mobile Library served these communities every third Friday, with a 90-minute stop in Sun Peaks and a 45-minute stop in Whitecroft.

“We are pleased to see the additional service for Sun Peaks. As Sun Peaks grows, there are more and more residents supporting all that libraries have to offer in rural communities,” said Al Raine, Mayor of Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.

The award-winning Mobile Library offers regular service to 30 stops throughout the Thompson-Nicola region. The vehicle is a one-of-a-kind design and operates as a full-service library. A wide range of materials for all ages can be found on board, including books, audiobooks, magazines, CDs, and DVDs. Patrons can also visit to use its public Wi-Fi. TNRD residents have access to a free TNRL library card, which is valid at all library branches and the Mobile Library.

“Livability is a strategic priority of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board,” said Melissa Lowenberg, Manager of Community Libraries & Engagement. “With this priority in mind, the TNRL continues to innovate and adapt to the changing needs of our communities and its residents. We’re excited to roll out this updated schedule, and we know that the Mobile Library is crucial for bringing library service to many rural areas.”

Residents should be advised that due to maintenance, the Mini Mobile Library may need to service Mobile Library stops. The Mini Mobile Library will continue to have all holds on board and more limited library materials.

The new Mobile Library schedule is available at all TNRL locations, and online at: tnrl.ca/mobile-library.
