Many of these are freely available for anyone – not just those with a library card. We want to make sure that you have quality resources that can help make things easier for you and your children.
1. ScienceFlix
Access this database through the library website with your library card number. It features articles, videos, and experiments on all different branches of science. You can even tailor the reading level of the site for different ages!
2. Tumblebooks
Featuring both digital Story Books and Read Alongs, children can practice their reading or have a story read to them. Of course, the best way for children to experience digital reading is together with an adult, so we encourage you to join in the fun!
This site from the BC Ministry of Education offers a collection of resources to support families learning from home while in-class instruction remains suspended.
4. Parent Resource Page from SD73
School District 73 has put together a collection of resources for families, including not just educational resources, but ones for supporting children emotionally during this uncertain time, and links to fun activity ideas. Regularly updated, so check back often.
If you’re missing regular storytime, why not listen to an astronaut read a story FROM SPACE?
If you’re looking for a way to get the kids out of the house, why not take them on a field trip to the Canadian Museum of History, or the Louvre, or Yellowstone National Park? The Museum Computer Network has put together an amazing list of virtual field trips.
