Freedom To Read

Did you know that February 21-27th is Freedom to Read Week? Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. For 2021 we want to celebrate this week by encouraging you to read banned or challenged books.

Throughout the month of February, for every book you read that has been banned or challenged in Canada, you’ll earn an entry into our prize draw! Ask a staff member for a recommendation, check out the list at or view our list below.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2021 Freedom to Read contest, and stay tuned for next year!
