Literacy at Home: Storytelling Sack
Children love telling stories!
It’s easy to help your children build their early literacy skills at home!
For this week’s Literacy at Home we have some more songs for 0-2s for you! There are five practices that support early literacy: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. Singing is one of our favourites!
Sock puppets might be easy to make, but they are a wonderful rainy day activity to share with children of all ages. They also promote storytelling and play – two great ways to build literacy skills!
Paper and drawing materials (markers, pencil crayons, crayons) are all you need for this easy activity that supports writing development.
We’re back with another simple activity that you can use at home with your children to help support the development of their early literacy skills!
Singing is a great tool for language development because it slows down the rhythm of our speech – helping children really hear the sounds of our language! It can also help introduce new concepts to your child, or to smooth your way through any rough patches in your day. Also it’s just plain fun – no matter what kind of singing voice you have!
Salt Tracing is a really simple activity that you can do with minimal materials which supports all of the practices except singing (although we bet you could build some singing into it)!
