Tech Tuesday: eReading – Using the Libby App

Last time we talked about some of the basics of ereading. Today we’re going to talk about the Libby app!

Libby is an app for Android and iOS devices. It provides the easiest way to read ebooks or listen to audiobooks from the library. Before you get started with Libby you need to have a current library card with the TNRL. If you’re not sure whether or not your card has expired feel free to send us an email (questions@tnrd.ca).

To get started download the app from the Play Store or App Store. When you open the app for the first time it will guide you through the setup process. Here are instructions with more detail.

Here’s a list of help for the most common things Libby lets you do:

Search for library ebooks and eaudiobooks

Borrow, renew, or return items

Download items

Manage holds

Read ebooks

Listen to eaudiobooks

Create to-be-read lists with tags

If you’re currently a user of the Overdrive app please note that Overdrive (the company that owns the Overdrive app and the Libby app – I know, it’s confusing) is retiring the Overdrive app early next year. So now is a great time to learn how to use Libby!

Next time we’ll talk about what kind of devices work best for eReading and what to get!
